Dr Peter Dickinson is a Consultant Clinical Oncologist based in Leeds, and has spent over 20 years in cancer medicine. He treats lung cancer, metastatic cancer with stereotactic radiotherapy and mesothelioma privately at Nova Healthcare in Leeds and gives radiotherapy at any GenesisCare centre in the UK. His focus is straightforward: to give you the time to understand your diagnosis, talk you through your treatment options, and design a treatment plan grounded in the latest clinical evidence which is tailored to you as an individual.
Choosing the consultant who will guide you through cancer treatment is a personal decision, and most patients want a sense of what their oncologist is actually like before picking up the phone. This short introduction shows how Dr Dickinson approaches a first consultation, the value Dr Dickinson places on explaining things in plain English, and what you can expect whether you visit our clinic at Nova Healthcare in Leeds or join Dr Dickinson on video or by phone from anywhere in the UK.

Foundations at Nottingham and Manchester
He trained at the University of Nottingham Medical School, completed his Specialist Clinical Oncology training in Nottingham, and then took on a Technical Radiotherapy Fellowship at The Christie Hospital in Manchester, one of Europe’s leading cancer centres.
Consultant at Leeds Teaching Hospitals He was appointed as a Consultant Clinical Oncologist at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust in 2013, and Leeds has been his clinical home since. He helped establish the stereotactic radiotherapy service for oligometastatic disease in Leeds which involved introducing innovative new techniques and equipment. He was Clinical Lead for Radiotherapy for six years, and then Clinical Lead for Clinical Oncology for a further two years. That period shaped how he thinks about complex cancer care: precision, multidisciplinary coordination, and honest conversations with patients.
Specialist Advisor to GenesisCare
In 2023, Dr Dickinson joined GenesisCare UK as a Specialist Advisor to the SABR Clinical Reference Group. Through this role, he contributes to a twice-weekly national SABR Multidisciplinary Team meeting. He helps develop the SABR service for the benefit of patients, such as contributing to the development of the GenesisCare rapid access Spine SABR pathway. He also helps train and mentor consultants in stereotactic radiotherapy across the UK private network, which gives his a national perspective of how SABR is being delivered, refined and extended into new clinical situations.
Clinical Lead, Elekta Unity MR Linac at GenesisCare Leeds
In October 2025, GenesisCare appointed him Clinical Lead for the new Elekta Unity MR Linac service at their fifteenth UK specialist cancer centre, in Leeds. The GenesisCare Leeds project represents an exciting investment of over £40 million in a specialist cancer centre for patients in the North of England and Scotland. The MR Linac combines real-time MRI imaging with radiotherapy delivery, allowing Dr Dickinsons to see the tumour during treatment and adapt the plan daily. It is particularly valuable for tumours that are hard to see on CT, that move with breathing, that sit close to critical organs, or in patients who have already had radiotherapy to the same area.
National research, local care
Dr Dickinson continues to publish, lecture at national and international meetings, and run clinical trials. He serves on the Royal College of Radiologists Professional Practice Board as Radiotherapy Quality and Safety Advisor, and he co-authored the UK SABR Consortium's guidance on pelvic re-irradiation. Most importantly, he keeps treating patients every week, at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, at Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust, Nova Healthcare and any GenesisCare UK centre.
Modern oncology is increasingly complex and precise. Better technology, better imaging and better drugs have led to significant improvements in patient outcomes. It is now possible to offer treatments which would not have been possible a decade ago. Advancements in technology allow him to deliver higher radiation doses to tumours in fewer sessions, with fewer side effects.
