Terms and conditions

Who these terms apply to

These terms govern your use of peterdickinson.co.uk (the “site”) and the information services I make available through it. The site is owned and operated by Dr Peter Dickinson, Consultant Clinical Oncologist (GMC 6101671).

By using the site, you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the site.

These terms cover the website only. They do not form the contract for clinical care. If you book a consultation with me, the terms governing that clinical contract will be provided separately at the time of booking.

The information on this site is not medical advice

The content on peterdickinson.co.uk, including information about cancer treatments, conditions, research and clinical approaches, is provided for general information purposes only. It is not medical advice and is not a substitute for a consultation with a qualified clinician.

You should not act on information from the site, or delay seeking medical attention, on the basis of anything you read here.

If you have a medical concern, please:

  • Contact your GP, or
  • Call 111 (NHS non-emergency)
  • Call 999 in a medical emergency

If you are an existing patient with a clinical concern between appointments, contact my team directly using the number on your appointment letter.

The site reflects current information at the time of writing

I take care to make sure clinical information on the site is accurate and current. Each clinical page carries a “last reviewed” date. Cancer treatment evolves quickly, and I review the site at least every 12 months.

To the extent the law allows, I make no warranty or representation that the information on the site is complete, current, accurate, or fit for any particular purpose. Always discuss your specific situation with your treating clinician.

The clinical contract is separate from these terms

If you book a consultation with my practice, that creates a separate contract between you and me as your treating clinician. That contract is governed by:

  • The booking confirmation and consent forms you complete at the time
  • The professional standards of the General Medical Council and the Royal College of Radiologists
  • The Common Law Duty of Confidentiality
  • The terms of any insurance arrangement you rely on for payment
  • UK consumer law (where you are a private self-paying patient)

Nothing in these website terms changes my professional or contractual duties to you as a patient.

Fees, payment and insurance

Information on the site about consultation fees and treatment costs is indicative. The actual fee for your care depends on your specific situation and will be confirmed in writing before treatment starts.

If you are using private medical insurance, you are responsible for confirming with your insurer that:

  • Your policy covers consultation with a Consultant Clinical Oncologist
  • You have obtained any pre-authorisation code your insurer requires
  • Any policy excess or co-payment is paid at the time it is due

If your insurer declines a claim, the unpaid amount becomes payable directly by you.

Cancellations and rescheduling

If you need to cancel or reschedule a consultation, please contact my team as early as possible. Cancellation terms are provided to you in your booking confirmation. Late cancellations or no-shows may incur a fee.

Acceptable use of the site

You agree not to:

  • Use the site in any way that breaches UK or EU law
  • Submit false, misleading or fraudulent information through the contact, feedback or newsletter forms
  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to the site, its servers, or any connected database
  • Upload or transmit viruses, malware, or any other harmful code
  • Use the site to send unsolicited messages or harvest personal information from other users
  • Reproduce, copy, sell or redistribute content from the site without my written permission
  • Use the site or its content to train artificial intelligence models without my written permission

I reserve the right to block IP addresses and report misuse to the relevant authorities.

Intellectual property

All content on the site, including text, images, graphics, logos, video and the underlying code, is owned by me or my licensors and is protected by UK and international copyright and trademark law.

You may:

  • Print or download extracts of pages for your personal, non-commercial use
  • Share links to my pages on social media
  • Quote short extracts with proper attribution and a link back to the source page

You may not, without my prior written permission:

  • Reproduce content commercially

  • Use the content to train, fine-tune or evaluate any artificial intelligence model

Third-party links

The site contains links to peer-reviewed journals, regulatory bodies, professional colleges, charities and partner organisations such as Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, GenesisCare and Nova Healthcare.

I have no control over the content of third-party sites. A link is not an endorsement of every aspect of the linked site, and I am not responsible for any loss or damage that may arise from your use of it.

Statement of interests

Dr Peter Dickinson is an employee of GenesisCare UK and an investor in the GenesisCare Leeds Centre.

My liability to you

The site is provided “as is”. To the extent the law allows:

  • I do not exclude or limit liability for death or personal injury caused by my negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for any other liability that cannot be excluded under UK law
  • I will not be liable for any indirect, special or consequential loss arising from your use of the site
  • I will not be liable for any decisions you make based on information from the site, where you have not first obtained advice from a qualified clinician on your specific situation

This clause does not affect your statutory rights as a consumer.

Privacy

How I handle your personal information is set out in my Privacy Notice and Cookie Notice. Both form part of these terms.

Patient feedback and complaints

I welcome feedback. The feedback form on the site goes directly to my team, and I read every submission personally.

If you wish to raise a formal complaint about my clinical care or my service, the route depends on where you were treated:

  • For private care under my practice: contact leedsth-tr.novasecretaries@nhs.net. The full complaints policy is available on request and you’ll receive an acknowledgement within 2 working days and a full response within 7 working days
  • For NHS care at Leeds Teaching Hospitals: contact the LTHT Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS)
  • For complaints about a clinician: the General Medical Council at gmc-uk.org

Raising a concern will not affect your care in any way.

Changes to these terms

I may update these terms from time to time. The “last reviewed” date at the top tells you when the current version was published. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.

Governing law and jurisdiction

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from your use of the site, except where you are a consumer resident in another part of the UK or the EU, in which case you may also bring proceedings in your local courts.
